Konnyaku Jelly

Originally I wanted to make some egg agar agar but decided to make them with konnyaku jelly.

Pour some of the jelly into empty egg shell and added some slices of peaches.

Set in the fridge and when they are harden, cracked the shell and you can see the egg jelly with the fruit inside. It is fun and interesting.

I make some with the different jelly moulds.

For the recipes you can view this video from Phoon Huat.

These assorted agar agar are for chinese new year. The green ones are chendol agar agar which I had posted before. The heart shaped agar agar are made with mandarin oranges. The rest of the agar agar with coconut made by my son (looked a bit untidy), I got the inspiration from baking mom's blog.

Different ways of making agar agar

I just made some agar agar for tomorrow christmas party at my brother's house.
Bought this box of chendol strips from the supermarket.

This is how the chendol strips looked like. I blanched them in hot water and set aside. Boil 12 gm agar agar powder, 850ml of water, 200 gm caster sugar, 200 ml coconut cream, pinch of salt, 3 pandan leaves tied into a knot, 1 box of green chendol strips.

When boiled pour into moulds and add some chendol strips. Let it set and refrigerate.
This heart shaped mould is lovely, I must remember to do a valentine dessert...lol

This is a peach agar agar. Just boiled some agar agar powder, water, sugar and when boiled, pour into mould and add peaches. Let it set and refrigerate.
Tonight I will make another dish, braised mushroom for tomorrow party. So these are my contribution for tomorrow pot luck party.

I am ready for tomorrow part. :)

Sunny Side Up Egg Agar Agar

made a sunny side up egg . It is not a real egg but made out of agar agar. The egg yolk is actually a half peach and the egg white is made of agar agar. Got this inspiration from a cooking show hosted by Chen Han Wei.

Agar Agar

Fish Agar Agar, got this inspiration from Baking Mom's Blog.

The "Cat" agar agar is made for my very good friend in Texas. Her nickname is Cat. Of course, I did not send the agar agar by DHL to her.....lol. Just email a photo of the "cat" agar agar to her to show my friendship with her.

The "Rat" agar agar is a tried and error for the coming Chinese New Year. The coming chinese new year will be the year of the rat. I think I did not do a good job.....lol.
All the above has no recipes, it is through one creativeness. Just follow the instructions on the back of the packet of the agar agar powder to make the agar agar and then pour into the agar agar mould and coloured them with food colouring according to your designs.

Easter Agar Agar

I made some agar agar and played around with different colours and moulds. I loved the one with tulips and the bunnies.

Then I decided to make the base with transparent agar agar and added some peaches.

But as I am lazy, I noticed the base is too transparent to make the little pictures outstanding. I should have added some coconut milk to the transparent agar agar.

Pineapple Tarts

I saw this pineapple tarts recipe and decided to bake some. I did not follow exactly to the recipe, did not add iced water and only added two egg yolks cause the pastry looked rather wet.

I rolled the ready pineapple fillings from Phoon Huat (a local baking suppplier) into balls.

Greased a heart shaped mould (You can used any other moulds or cutter, be creative), filled half the mould with pineapple fillings and the remaining with pastry or the other way round. Remember to egg wash the pineapple fillings to give it a shining look.
Pineapple tarts can be used for Chinese New Year (a favourite) and also Valentine's Day because of its heart shape. Enjoy
