Teochew lunch set at Zui Yu Xuan Teochew Restaurant at Amoy Street Singapore

Recently celebrated my brother's 70th birthday at Zui Yu Xuan Teochew Restaurant in Amoy Street. First time we lunch here as we were Teochew and love teochew food. Read that they had this dish called Puning Bean Curd. History of this Puning Bean Curd was our childhood dish as my my Dad was born in Puning, Swatow, China. He sailed to Singapore in a boat from China with his parents.

As a child I loved the puning bean curd is really different from the rest of bean curd. Once fried, it is crispy on the outside and silky smooth on the inside and of course it goes well with my dad home made chilli. This Puning Bean Curd used to be found all over Singapore but soon faded away and no longer able to buy Puning Bean Curd in Singapore.

So we are so happy to chance upon this Puning Bean Curd after so many decades in this Teochew Restaurant. My siblings and I really like it so much and we visit the restaurant again hahaha, yes for the Puning Bean Curd.

Maybe I should start visiting my dad's hometown in Swatow, China (now called Shantou)
The restaurant is housed in this ancient building that looked like a temple. It was once a free school. Read more about the free school from source .
Before starting our meal, we were served some chinese tea in this cute cup with a fish at the bottom of the cup.
After finished drinking the tea, I could see the fish in the cup.

We got the complimentary prosperity bun since it was my brother's 70th birthday and my sister is a member of Jumbo Group.
We ordered the set menu. Our fist dish is the Teochew Classic Platter that comes with 4 different dishes.

Teochew Puning Bean Curd

Chilled Marinated Jelly fish
Deep fried Ngoh Hiang

Pig Trotter Terrine

We loved and missed the Teochew Puning Bean Curd, we ordered another two plates of it. Yummy.
Supreme Seafood Soup with Bird's Nest and winter melon

OMG, I already started to feel so full hahaha, so much good stuff in the soup.

Shelled prawns wok fried with pepper and spiced salt

Soon Hock (Marble Goby) steamed with soya sauce
Home made vegetable bean curd braised with crab meat

Whole 10 head abalone braised with fish maw and spinach in Abalone sauce

Wok fried mee sua with seafood

Served  final thick chinese tea in the cute cup before our dessert

We changed the dessert of tau suan (in the set menu) to yam paste

We were so happy with the lunch and feeling extremely full hahaha. We will definitely visit the restaurant again, love the ambience of the restaurant and the good and attentive service by the restaurant staff.

Chui Huay Lim Teochew Cuisine - Lunch Set Menu with suckling pig

Lunch at our favourite restaurant again. This time round, got a free lunch treat at Chui Huay Lim Restaurant, we had the set menu for teochew cuisine.

Teochew Cuisine Exquisite Platter (Deep Fried Liver Rolls, Deep Fried Beancurd Roll Stu ed with Prawns, Braised Duck with Beancurd, Pig Trotter Terrine)

Braised Superior Shark’s Fin Soup Teochew Style (Normally, I do not like thick chucky shark's fin cause they were hard to chew but this was excellent, very soft and easy to chew and very tasty).

Teochew Roasted Suckling Pig Marinated with Five Spices

Pig's Head (chopped to bite sizes)

Asparagus Stir Fried with Pumpkin, Fresh Lily Bulbs and Dried Sole Fish

Teochew Steamed Pomfret

Whole 3-Head Abalone and Broccoli Braised with Superior Abalone Sauce in Claypot

Like how soft and tender the abalone and especially easy to chew especially to senior folks like us. :) Very yummy and tasty too.

King Prawns and Glass Vermicelli Braised in Claypot Teochew Style

Yam Paste with Pumpkin and Gingko Nuts
